Community Partnerships: JUST BETWEEN FRIENDS

Birthline partners with many community organizations to benefit our clients. One such partnership is with Amy Fernandez (pictured below center), the owner of the franchise, Just Between Friends. She recently donated to one of our needy families pictured with her below. Amy is very generous! She also gives us all the donations that do not sell for our clients! Thank you Amy!

There is so much goodness in the world!!!

Baby Yareli and her devoted mom Jacqueline.

The generous donor Amy Fernandez with mom and baby Romero.

Jacqueline and Lionel Romero and their family, Rubin age 5, Leah age 2 and baby Yareli were selected for the free Shopping Spree at the Just Between Friends event on September 3rd at the Jacobs Center Auditorium. Amy Fernandez, the owner of the franchise generously gave one of our Birthline clients over $150 worth of merchandise. The family was selected due to their needs. Baby Yareli is a medically fragile one month old, who will undergo several surgeries in the next few years. She is thriving at this time due her mother's dedication to breastfeeding and Jacqueline and her whole family's love and care. Birthline is providing Case Management to assist with all County services, meeting their housing needs, referrals for completion of her High School Diploma and child care. The family is very grateful for the fun day of shopping and the support of Birthline and Just Between Friends.

WALK FOR LIFE + PLEASE GIVE!

Sharon Shelton, Volunteer Director of Birthline of San Diego

ALL ARE INVITED!!!

WALK FOR LIFE

1-4 pm October 4th, Sunday at De Anza Cove Mission Bay

This is the time of year we hold our biggest fundraiser to pay rent and buy much needed diapers, food, clothing and more for our Birthline of San Diego clients. The Walk for Life is for EVERYONE who loves & cares about babies and families!!!

Birthline is a non profit pro-life organization that is over 35 years old. There is no paid staff. 100% of our staff are volunteers, including our Director of the Clairemont office, Sharon Shelton & Tricia Corrao, Director of our Chula Vista office.

At Birthline, we give help to young pregnant mothers and mothers of babies and young children up to age 5. We provide clothing, diapers, formula, food and some larger baby items when they are available. The most important thing we do is help young mothers and mothers to be by listening to them and pointing them in the right direction that will help them and their babies grow to be happy contributing adults.

Birthline Loves Triplets!

The triplets 1st Birthday Party!

The day Myesha came home from the hospital with her triplets!

Myesha and her precious triplets came to Birthline for some tender loving care from another social service organization. Myesha was a victim of domestic violence and needed help accessing the shelter housing system. She was in her first trimester of pregnancy and recently found out she was pregnant with triplets. She already had a 6 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. There was no family support as they all lived on the East Coast. She spent the last 5 weeks of her pregnancy at Sharp Hospital and delivered three healthy babies, one girl and two boys. Jeanne, in the photo with Myesha (a Birthline volunteer & retired nurse) was able to get her into a shelter and then into transitional housing. Through close case management she was able to get county assistance, child care, and assessment for her 6 year child's educational needs. Working with other non profit organizations we were able to provide her a vehicle and she is now working full time. Myesha is a Navy Veteran and we are working on her benefits at this time. She is a dedicated single mother of five children who is working very hard to bring health and happiness to her children. She is very appreciative of Birthline's support and generosity.

Saving Victoria

New baby Victoria is a miracle baby. Her mom was told to have an abortion due to a tumor on her ovary. Mom gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl, Victoria. 10 days later she had the tumor removed and praise God it was benign. Mom and baby are doing well and so grateful for the support of Birthine during a scarey time in her life.

It Takes A Village

Ahida is one of our most grateful clients. She is thankful for the breastfeeding help she received from our Lactation Consultant and suggestions for starting solid foods as well as the emotional and material support she receives as she raises her baby. Mothers & fathers need as much love & care as we can give.

Blessings of an Unplanned Pregnancy

Over six years ago on a Tuesday a 19 year old girl from NY was brought into Birthline of San Diego by a teacher from the school she had been attending, a post-high school design school. In the second semester of school, she and an old boyfriend connected up and she became pregnant. The boyfriend split, her parents cut all ties with her as did the rest of her family. One of her teachers found her sobbing on the curb outside of school. She asked him to take her to an abortion clinic and instead he brought her to Birthline. One of our Birthline volunteers, spent the next two years helping her get and stay on her feet. She found her a bed at Cortez Hill after many phone calls, wait lists and interviews. She had no car so we assisted her with transportation (going above and beyond the call of a volunteer) to get her to Birthline and other resources in the community. Friends of Birthline in LA donated necessary baby items as well as maternity clothes. With the help of Cortez Hill, we found her a doctor at Sharp Mary Birch hospital and got her signed up with WIC (Women, Infants and Children).  She gave birth to a healthy baby boy and she was so thrilled to be a new mother. She could not believe she ever considered having an abortion. Her baby boy was such a beautiful blessing. Our client did some job training programs and started looking for a minimum wage job for starters. Birthline continued to help her with diapers and other baby supplies. She began to share photos of her baby boy with her family and when he was 9 months old her family had a change of heart and sent her a ticket home. She was thrilled. We helped her ship her baby items back home and put mom and baby on a flight to NY.

That was 6 years ago and the mom recently reconnected with us on facebook. She is now married and they have a baby girl and run a family business. They spend lots of time with grandparents and we could not be happier for her and her baby who almost wasn't.

This is what Birthline is all about. We are here in a time of crisis to stay with a client until they get back on their feet and can create a good life for their babies.

Charity is an act of love

Here are three of the beautiful children of this mother of five who came to Birthline hoping we could make her life a little easier. Through an anonymous donation (this stroller was left at our front door last week!) we are able to provide her with a double stroller for her 3 month old baby girl and her one year old son. On this visit she was able to walk over to CCSA and obtain food and enroll three of her children in the CCSA backpack program. Thank you to all who donate to Birthline of San Diego in any way. Your charitable gift it put to good use.

Giving Back - The Next Generation

Did you know Birthline is 100% volunteer run? Noone gets paid, not even our director. We are all rewarded with the joys of giving. Amelie, a granddaughter of one of our volunteers, is spending part of her summer sorting toys for our clients & helping to organize our office. It is never too soon to teach the next generation to feel the heart warming gift of giving back.
